Our ‘Simple Choice Meal’ solutions to the new guidelines will be unveiled at the School Nutrition Association’s ANC, July 15-18. At E S Foods we’ve made it our mission to help schools “Solve the Puzzle” and develop creative ways to meet the new challenges of limited bread/grain servings and other regulations in this new era of school food service. For instance, to help schools meet the limited bread/grain lunch serving, now restricted to 8-9 services per week for K-5, we has multiple meal options that meet the 1-Bread equivalent, including:
Simple Solutions to 1-Bread Options
- Brunch for lunch ‘Brunch Breaks’
- PBJ Meal Breaks
- Toasted Cheese Sandwich Meal Breaks
These innovative new products are kid-friendly, delicious and nutritious. Each includes a one-ounce equivalent of whole grain rich bread, 1 ½-2 ounce proteins, and 1/2 cup of fruit.
We call these ‘Simple Choice Meals’ because you don’t have to think about how much of this, how much of that – it’s all there – and it also helps streamline the serving lines. We also offer a 1-Bread Toasted Cheese Sandwich and our popular Whole Grain, Reduced Sodium, Reduced Fat Macaroni & Cheese – so several, practical 1-Bread solutions are already available. Schools can continue current 2-bread options four days a week, and serve any of these 1-bread options on the fifth day to meet the 9 grain maximum requirement. Or, use it for a ‘Meatless Monday’ – this really adds flexibility to the menu.
Simple Breakfast Solutions
The new regulations put an overwhelming focus on serving very specific items for kids, so we want to remind schools that we have an easy turnkey approach to breakfast that allows them to focus their time and energy on finding and preparing the right items for lunch. Our goal is to help school food service put all the pieces together for wholesome meals. For example, our Breakfast Breaks grab & go has all the breakfast components in one convenient, eco-friendly pouch package that simplifies storage and inventory management. There are now 18 varieties of Breakfast Breaks available.
