National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is March 6-10, 2017. The School Nutrition Association (SNA) theme for this year’s NSBW is “Take the School Breakfast Challenge” to encourage students, staff and school officials to increase their participation in school breakfast. This week highlights how eating a nutritious breakfast helps students fuel up for success in the classroom and beyond. Resources and a comprehensive tool kit can be found on the SNA website that provides materials for use with students, parents, administrators, and the media. In addition, Team Nutrition from USDA also offers School Breakfast Materials on its website.
E S Foods recently added new breakfast items that are making the grade with kids. Check out our new Biscuit Sticks This whole grain biscuit with raspberry filling comes “fully baked” and counts as two bread servings. In addition, we have two new breakfast empanadas: Egg, Cheese, Turkey Bacon Breakfast Empanada and Egg, Cheese, Potato & Onion Breakfast Empanada. These are baked on sites and are great new options for hot breakfast. These new offerings complement our extensive line of Breakfast Breaks.
The most recent School Breakfast Scorecard released last month by the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) credits the continued success of the School Breakfast Program to Classroom Breakfast, “grab and go” meals, and the Community Eligibility Provision.
